Hans Verolme

Hans Verolme is the founder and senior strategic adviser of the Climate Advisers Network, a global collaborative effort to raise climate ambition through capacity building and strategy advice for governments, foundations and NGOs. He is widely recognized as an expert across the spectrum of low carbon transitions and mitigation pathways and an experienced observer of the international climate change negotiations and valued adviser to developing countries, foundations and civil society. Apart from his engagement in international climate change and sustainable development, he has extensive analytical and advisory experience in the field in Africa, South America and Asia.


Hans is also a partner in the Climate Finance Accelerator, a UK-funded program that brings private sector investors together with green finance experts and project proponents of NDC-aligned projects to develop blended finance solutions that spur low-carbon investment. This included mapping of green finance in countries and a hands-on workshop with investors, green finance expert and projects to co-build solutions for investment.
Hans has led the teams responsible for the enhanced 2020-2030 NDC for Suriname, including a project portfolio for the electricity, transport, agriculture and forest sectors, and the development of the Nigeria INDC, widely credited to be among the more ambitious and transparent of Paris Agreement plans. He also led the preparation of five sectoral action plans that guide implementation of the Nigeria NDC. Currently, he is advising on Nigeria’s NDC update, having prepared new renewables scenarios for 2030 based on the latest available data for Africa’s largest economy. Prior to his position at the Climate Advisers Network, he advised the British ambassador in Washington, DC, and served as global and US Climate Change Director of the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF).
